Tell us what you're hearing. We'll tell you exactly what to fix.

Capo Intonation Helper

Capo on. Something sounds off.

Three quick questions. One clear fix. No tuner needed.

Step 1 of 3

What type of capo?

This helps us give you the right pressure advice.

Spring-loaded capo
Spring-Loaded
Squeeze to open, clip on
Adjustable tension capo
Adjustable
Screw or dial tension
Elastic strap capo
Elastic / Strap
Band or strap type
Step 2 of 3

Which fret is the capo on?

Higher frets can be a little more forgiving — lower frets show problems faster.

Step 3 of 3

What are you hearing?

Tap the one that best describes what's going on.

🎵
Notes sound sharp
In tune without the capo, sour with it on
Strings buzzing
Rattling or dead-sounding notes
↔️
Sounds sour but no buzz
Wrong but hard to pin down exactly why
Actually sounds fine
Just wanted to double-check
🎸 The Side-Pull Rule
Always check that your capo is pressing the strings straight down — not pushing them sideways toward the edge of the fretboard. Even a small lateral shift makes chords sound sour in a way that is hard to pin down.
